Employment Type: Full-Time
Stage Audio Works is a leading supplier of professional audio-visual technology and turnkey systems integration. We are looking for a motivated, hands-on Junior AV Installer & Field Support Technician to join our technical team.
In this role, your primary focus will be the physical installation, cabling, and deployment of world-class audio and video systems. This is an incredible opportunity for a junior technician with solid foundational infrastructure skills to work with cutting-edge technology and learn from some of the best systems engineers in the industry.
Key Responsibilities
- On-Site Installation & Rigging
- Assist with the safe mechanical rigging and mounting of AV equipment, including structural bracketry, trusses, and custom support frameworks.
- Assemble, fly, or ground-stack high-resolution LED video walls according to system drawings.
- Mount, align, and calibrate professional projectors, lenses, and projection screens.
- Position and install professional audio systems, including line arrays, point-source speakers, and architectural audio solutions.
- Infrastructure & Network Cabling
- Pull, route, and neatly dress structural cabling through containment, conduit, and server racks.
- Perform high-quality, reliable network cable terminations (RJ45, etherCON, Cat6/6A) as well as standard audio/control connectors (XLR, SpeakON, phoenix connectors).
- Ensure all cable runs are properly labelled, documented, and tested for continuity and bandwidth standards.
- General AV Support & Basic Commissioning
- Assist senior technicians with basic equipment power-up, hardware patching, and initial device configurations.
- Handle basic mounting and patching of ancillary AV hardware, which may occasionally include basic utility or stage lighting fixtures.
- Maintain a clean, organised, and safe workspace on site and in the rack-build areas.
- Field Support & Maintenance
- Respond to client support logs and assist with on-site hardware troubleshooting.
- Perform routine preventative maintenance on installed systems (cleaning filters, testing connections, tracking physical hardware integrity).
Required Experience & Technical Skills
- Video Systems: Hands-on experience assembling LED wall panels (handling fragile pixels) and projector mounting/lens adjustment.
- Audio Systems: Fundamental knowledge of audio signal flow, speaker mounting, and connecting amplifiers/processors.
- Termination Skills: Proven ability to terminate network cables (Cat6/etherCON) cleanly and consistently.
- Rigging & Mounting: Basic understanding of rigging hardware, weight load safety, and safe practices when working at heights.
- Control & Power: Basic familiarity with AV control signals and power distribution. Elementary knowledge of stage lighting/DMX is a minor plus, but not a primary requirement.
Qualifications & Personal Attributes
- Education: Matric / Grade 12 or equivalent. A relevant technical certification (AV, IT, or Electrical) is a plus.
- Working at Heights: A valid “Working at Heights” certification is highly advantageous (or the willingness to undergo training immediately).
- Driver’s License: Valid South African driver’s license (Code 8/EB) is essential for field travel.
- Problem-Solving Mindset: A logical approach to physical troubleshooting and a keen eye for neatness and detail.
- Physical Fitness: Ability to lift heavy equipment, climb ladders, and work dynamically on active installation sites.
